This time of year, we’re all busy getting prepared for the holidays by shopping, watching Hallmark movies, waiting for snow, and watching more Hallmark movies.  Then, there is the Grinch literally trying to steal Christmas from under our trees.

This year, the Grinch will be played by any one of the people “phishing” on the internet.  No, I’m not talking about the fantasy of yourself on the bed of a quiet stream attempting to catch a large-mouthed bass.  I’m talking about the internet perp who is redirecting emails to sites that will take your money and your identity.

Phishing scams come in all forms.  From the popular “need updated information” email to the bogus Amazon site that claims we need to update our credit card on a recent purchase, they’re plentiful this time of year.

You’re probably asking how these scammers know you just bought a gift.  Well, they don’t, but according to the law of averages, when you send out two million emails, SOMEONE is going to respond.  It’s a numbers game and they know they can win.

Don’t get suckered!  If there is an issue with a real purchase, call the company’s verified customer service phone number.  Don’t use the 800 number at the bottom of the fake email either!  This is the time for holiday giving and not holiday phishing.
