Well, this is the month I’ve been waiting for; the shortest month for sure but to me, the month that counts. We’ve had Groundhog Day, but my guess is that when PETA finally prevails, there will be a sign next year on the groundhog’s den, which reads, “We’re closed, moving to Florida for the winter; read the Farmer’s Almanac instead”.
Also, Valentine’s Day. Does anyone really know the derivation of this festive occasion for lovers or is this something that Hallmark invented to sell cards, and their movie channel?
Presidents Day…ok, so ask which President’s birthday is being celebrated. My guess will be a startled look with many of the younger generation replying, Barak Obama and Bill Clinton.
So, what about me……why is this a month I treasure? It’s the month of the mulligan! Your enthusiastic retort: “What are you talking about?”
It’s a term used in golf to mean, a do over. You’ve just hit a golf shot that goes 3 yards from your tee. You’re embarrassed for sure, but your partner yells out, take a mulligan…. hit a do over.
I’m taking a mulligan on my resolutions made a month ago. Losing some pounds. I just finished a second piece of cake. My workout regimen…don’t think walking to the mailbox counts. Getting organized. Buying more hangars for my closet doesn’t work.
Maybe I should proudly say, it’s a new month and let’s just try again. Instead of saying losing weight, how about just 2 pounds. Instead of exercising more, let’s try walking down the street, and of course, getting organized – let’s just throw out the stack of magazines and newspapers that were never read……
It’s a new start. It’s February, it’s the Mulligan Month. There is no such thing as a failed resolution. It just needs a do over to get it going. So, as my father used to tell me, “Keep punching” … Don’t be afraid of more mulligans. It’s called Life.
Take it for what it is…it’s just as I see it.
